Eric Wiberg established Wiberg's Wisconsin Goalkeeper School (WWGS) in April 2004. Our original focus was on
athletes from the state of Wisconsin, but we have expanded our focus as the number of keepers that we work with from outside
of the state of Wisconsin continues to grow. We strive to provide keepers and coaches as many training and learning
opportunities as possible.
A key training opportunity was to hold the first annual Road Show in June 2007, courtesy of Stan Anderson
(Associate Head Coach of the Marquette University Men's Soccer Team and Camp Shutout founder and owner). The Road Show is a
three day goalkeeper camp held in June in Stevens Point, WI. 37 keepers attended the first Road Show, and we grew to 55
keepers in 2008. Our goal for 2009 is to have 75 keepers in attendance.
To introduce quality goalkeepers to college coaches, we launched www.wibergwgs.com in September 2007.
We post high quality video of keepers performing keeper specific activities and techniques on our website, allowing
coaches to "scout" them via computer. Historically, goalkeepers have been recruited based on their performance at games
and tournaments. However, the average keeper may only touch the ball a few times during a game, giving coaches little
idea of the true abilities of the keeper. Via www.wibergwgs.com, we hope to help change the way goalkeepers are recruited -
and goalkeeper camps are great places to really see what a goalkeeper can do!
Staff Coach Becca Heine is from Ohio – she has been instrumental in the growth of our program.
Becca played goalkeeper at Ohio Wesleyan University until injury cut her playing career short. Becca then turned
her energies to coaching, earning an NSCAA National Goalkeeping Diploma in 2008.
We are also very happy to have Meredith Decaluwe as a Staff Coach; Meredith concluded her
goalkeeper career in 2007 by helping to lead University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point into the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
Meredith is from Naperville, Illinois.
